New Device Deployment

Collect Contact Information

We need to know who to contact regarding signage. Please find the name/email addresses of the person that will be maintaining the signage so that we may contact them (or have them email me).

The form is located here:

Install the Chrome device as required. If this is a new installation you will need the following hardware:

  1. Provisioned Chromebox
  2. HDMI cable
  3. Power cable for Chromebox

After booting up you should presented with this screen:

WARNING: Selecting the wrong school means you will need to wipe the device and start over enrollment!

The device will need to be activated based on your location. To do this, login at On the left side of the screen select the school:

Enter the code into the textbox below "Activation Code":

Click the Activate Button. The signage should load the schools settings.

Fixing offscreen text

If you the signage is half off screen the picture mode needs to be changed. To do this, you will need the TV remote control or any IR Blaster with the TV setup.

Step 1: Access picture settings

On the remote control, access the TV's menu. The first option 'Picture' is selected.

Step 2: Picture Size

Scroll down to 'Picture Size'.

Why you do this?!

There are numerous reasons to powerwash a Chromebit. If you are unable to get the Chromebit to load the Kiosk, or if it's displaying a default application icon with the message "Waiting for application". Generally this means the policy on the device is corrupted, and it will never load. Powerwashing can also be done for basic troubleshooting.

You will need a small paperclip and a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Step 1: Start Powerwash

Unplug the device, and on the back side press the small button while plugging in the device

Step 2: Enter developer mode

You will see a ChromeOS recovery screen. Press CTRL+D

Step 3: Initiate Powerwash

A message about turning off OS verification comes up. Press the recovery button again with the paperclip. The device will reboot. Using your keyboard, press the spacebar.

Step 4: OS Verification off

OS Verification should now be off. Press SPACE to re-enable.

Step 5: Turn on OS Verification

Press enter to confirm you want verification turned back on.

Step 6: Verification ON

The device should now wipe itself after a few seconds.

Step 7: Setup Wifi

I personally use my phone to tether just so I don't have to enter the wifi settings. Either way, setup wifi as you normally would for a Chromebook.

Step 8: Enterprise Enrollment

You should see Enterprise Enrollment as the login page. IF YOU DO NOT, press CTRL+E to enroll the device. The username is 'Chromebit'.

Step 9: Verify Asset information

Please verify the asset information. It should match whatever is written on the Chromebit. If it does NOT match, please email with the correct device name and enter the correct name. Please enter the location (EX: Tech Office Lobby)

Converting Powerpoint

Powerpoint files can be easily converted for use on the digital signage. Some people find it easier to create their signage in Powerpoint and then upload it to the Digital Signage.

If you are using Google Slides, go to File->Download As->Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx) - proceed with article after you download the PowerPoint slide.

First, create or select the powerpoint presentation you want to use on the digital signage. 1.png

Create your powerpoint.

Feel free to add images, or whatever you want displayed. Once ready click "File"

Select the location you want to save to.

Click Save and select All Slides

Preview Signage

The signage requires a 1920x1080 resolution. As a result, the preview page will display scrollbars so you can see what it would look like as if you were looking at it on the TV. To see the new preview feature, it's on the left menu under "Preview".

Once in the Signage preview area, you will notice there are scrollbars that allow you to see the entire page. You can change the individual slide with the drop down box. If you have multiple signages, you can change that under the "Select Signage" option.

Changing quote of day

The quote of the day text can be modified. However, the background is random on each page load. Select Quote Manager on the left hand side. Turn the custom quotes on by changing the “Enable custom quotes” option to Enabled.

Each line in the textbox is treated as multiple quotes. They are randomly selected and updated every 24 hours.
